You Need To Watch The Most Underrated Superhero Show On HBO Max

You Need to Watch the Most Underrated Superhero Show on HBO Max

You Need to Watch the Most Underrated Superhero Show on HBO Max

Superman has never been an easy character to relate to. He is, essentially, a perfect being. Because he's the most powerful and morally pure character in the DC universe, there's not a lot of drama or internal conflict to mine from the Man of Steel. Contrast this with Batman, whose dark and flawed character makes him a fan favorite.

Of course, in the Marvel universe you have complex characters like The Falcon and the Winter SoldierLoki and the current run of She-Hulk, who headline their respective hit shows on Disney Plus. In comparison, Superman & Lois, which aired on The CW network and is now streaming both of its seasons on HBO Max, has flown under the radar. But it may be more impressive because it achieved a seemingly impossible goal: create a version of Superman that retains his Boy Scout personality but still makes him relatable.

The show does so by focusing on the theme of family, breathing new life into the franchise.

As a result, Superman & Lois may be the best iteration of Superman in TV or film. And this is coming from someone who watched Christopher Reeve's pitch-perfect performance at just the right age for it to leave a permanent impression.

The Reeve portrayal is one to be placed on a pedestal. But this new version speaks to me to an almost frighteningly personal degree. The new version of Clark Kent, played by Tyler Hoechlin, has been married to Lois for a while, and has two teenage boys. I'm also a father of two young boys. As amazing as Superman is at averting nuclear meltdowns or fending off rogue Kryptonians, he struggles to be a good father and makes bad decisions with the best of intentions. I can relate. (To the fatherhood bits anyway.)

That's not to say you need to be a father of two to appreciate the show. While it's technically part of the CW's "Arrowverse" universe of DC comic shows like The Flash and Supergirl (sort of... you get more indications at the end of the second season), it stands apart and feels different from everything that's come before it. The budget and production values are markedly higher, and the show is structured differently.

Where The Flash and Supergirl feature a group of do-gooders fighting off a threat of the week, Superman & Lois is a fascinating mashup of a typical comic book show and something grounded, like Friday Night Lights. There's a healthy amount of time spent on developing characters, who act like they're real people and not figures in some drama.

Hoechlin's Superman (or Kent) isn't the only character to root for in this show. Bitsie Tulloch is a force of nature as Lois Lane, showing her strength not just as a hard-nosed investigative journalist but as a protective mother. A large chunk of season 1 sees Lois working with local reporter Chrissy Beppo (Sofia Hasmik) to investigate a story, with discussions of actual journalism work, which again hits near and dear to my heart. Hitting upon the family theme further, season 2 has Lois working to free her sister from the clutches of a cult leader who's more than she seems.

Perhaps the most surprising elements are Lois and Clark's teenage sons, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alex Garfin). These characters could've easily been annoying or gotten wrapped up in the kind of melodrama that typical TV teenagers get into. The show airs on the CW, after all. And at first blush, Jonathan, a quarterback, and Jordan, an awkward brooder, fall into the usual cliches.

But instead, the link between these two brothers, one of whom -- light spoilers! -- develops superpowers, serves as a centerpiece of the show. Yes, they get into conflicts, and there are misunderstandings. There's jealousy and teenage gripes. But at the end of the day, the two talk like actual people and display an enduring level of support for each other.

The core family, flanked by a host of supporting characters who refuse to be typecast or go the obvious route, make for a show that's as enjoyable when they're hanging out at a local cafe as it is when Superman takes on an Iron Man-esque armored adversary. Emmanuelle Chriqui is a Lana Lang who's more world-weary than we remember, while Adam Rayner is deliciously devious as villain Morgan Edge, who gets a more complex arc in the second half that again ties into the idea of family. WolĂ© Parks, who plays the mysterious "Stranger" (who's definitely more than he seems) has one of the most satisfying character arcs in the show.

That's not to say there isn't loads of action. Superman & Lois takes its time with setting up its plot points, but that expanded budget ensured there are a number of set pieces that displayed the Man of Steel's power. From the cinematography to the special effects, the show is a big step up from the standard CW show and rightfully belongs on HBO Max.

The first season starts slow, but the arcs pick up the pace near the end, with twists and epic battles between superpowered figures, and all the stakes of any major comic book franchise. Plot points and clues buried early in the season pay off with almost overwhelming speed, and you're left with a satisfied conclusion.

It's telling that the final scene of the first season, which created a huge cliffhanger for the following season, isn't about some world-ending threat or new villain. It's about how the dynamics of the Kent family will change in interesting and even awkward ways.

Without any spoilers, the second season takes things up a notch, putting a disturbing mirror to the show and its characters that open up a ton of storytelling opportunities.

Superman & Lois has been green-lit for a third season. So you're safe knowing that your commitment to this first season will get some payoff.

Even for die-hard Marvel fan, this is a refreshing take on the superhero genre that's worth your time.

DIY Faucet Replacement: No, You Don't Need A Plumber's Help

DIY faucet replacement: No, you don't need a plumber's help

DIY faucet replacement: No, you don't need a plumber's help

Like many others, due to the coronavirus I've spent the past eight weeks working from home, trying to teach my kids and staring at all of the home improvement projects I haven't had time to tackle. First up on the list: changing out an old two-handle faucet and replacing it with a fancier single-handle faucet with removable spray nozzle.

Fortunately, modern plumbing and faucet design have made changing faucets easy. It's a quick day project that makes a significant difference to the look of your space, and you can save lots of money by skipping the plumber and doing it yourself.

So, here's a full rundown on how you can do just that. Just note that the faucet I installed isn't straight out of the box (we've had it around for awhile), so your experience may vary.

chance-lane-faucet-install-9

See ya later, two-handle faucet.

Chance Lane/CNET

Out with the old

First, shut off your water. You likely have two shut-off valves under your sink, one each for the hot and cold water supply lines. Turn off the water by turning these valves clockwise. You shouldn't need a wrench for this.

If there aren't any valves under the sink, then you'll need to follow the supply lines away from the faucet until you find a valve. You may end up shutting the water down at the water heater (and water heater bypass for cold), or the main valve. In this case, leave all the faucets on the lowest floor turned on to drain water from the entire system.

After you've shut the water off, turn on the faucet you're changing to make sure the water is actually shut off: If water continues to flow, you have a faulty valve. With a bucket and towel handy for any residual water, use an adjustable wrench to remove the supply lines. Stabilize the valve assembly with a pair of slotted pliers as you loosen the water line connection; this will keep the valve and line from twisting and getting damaged.

Once the valves are disconnected, you'll need to remove the old faucet assembly. It's held on by one or more retaining nuts under the sink, depending on the current configuration. These are sometimes difficult to access and you may need what's called a basin wrench. If you're lucky, a specific socket wrench may have been provided with the faucet. Once the retaining nuts are removed, you should be able to remove the old faucet from the sink.

chance-lane-faucet-install-13

With the old faucet removed, we can slide the new one in and start working to get it connected.

Chance Lane/CNET

In with the new

There are a variety of configurations for faucets. Between the number of handles, spray nozzle types and even spacing of required holes, there are a lot of ways to customize. Before you buy a new faucet, consider your arrangement, specifically the current number and location of holes in your counter or sink. Sinks and countertops can be modified accordingly, but you'll need to do a little research prior to purchasing your new faucet.

You might need a basin wrench or a specific socket wrench that came with your faucet in order to turn the retaining nuts.

Chance Lane/CNET

Start by putting the bracket that fits between the counter/sink and faucet in place. These will often have a foam underlay that will form a seal to help prevent water from seeping underneath the faucet assembly. Some faucets may differ, but the faucet I installed required minimal assembly prior to installation.

Run the supply lines of the faucet assembly, followed by the threaded rods of the faucet, through the holes in your countertop or sink. Working underneath in the most comfortable position you can find (good luck), tighten the retaining nut with a wrench.

If no socket wrench was provided with the faucet, and the space is tight enough to require a basin wrench, be extra-careful not to damage the faucet's water supply lines. It depends on the configuration of your particular faucet, but if the water lines are in the way of the retaining nut It could be beneficial to wrap them with nylon tape or some other protective material before doing this. Damaging water lines could cause a leak, and all of the mayhem that comes with that. You don't want that.

chance-lane-faucet-install-5

Be sure to take care when connecting your faucet to the water supply lines -- doing the job right can help you prevent leaks later on.

Chance Lane/CNET

Seal the deal with strong connections

Now, it's time to connect the faucet's water supply lines to the shut-off valve beneath the sink. With mine, the water lines were attached to the new faucet, but this isn't always the case. If you need to supply the water lines, it's recommended to change out hoses even if the ones you already have are compatible. If these hoses wear out and leak, you could have some trouble on your hands.

You'll want to apply a thin wrap of Teflon thread tape in a clockwise direction (the same direction you will turn the nut to tighten) around the threaded male connections to lubricate the threads, which allows for a better seal. Finger-tighten the threaded nut valve connections -- then, while holding the valve assembly with a pair of slotted pliers, finish tightening the connection with an adjustable wrench.

Slowly turn your water supply back on while checking for leaks. If the water flows normally and everything down below stays dry, then you're all set.

chance-lane-faucet-install-8

Once the new faucet is in, remove the aerator from the spray nozzle and run the water for a minute or so to clear your plumbing of any debris.

Chance Lane/CNET

Finish with a flush

It's a good idea at this point to flush out your lines to get rid of any debris you may have loosened up in your water lines. To do so, remove the aerator from the faucet tip and let the water run for about a minute. Sometimes a tool is supplied with the faucet to make removing the aerator easier. If you can't remove the aerator, remove the entire nozzle head and let the water run for a bit.

And that's it -- you can scratch that fancy new faucet installation off of your to-do list and move on to something else. I might recommend a nice glass of water and a nap, assuming the kids cooperate.

Millions can't pay their car loans. Here's what to do if you're one of them

Millions can't pay their car loans. Here's what to do if you're one of them

If you've skipped a car payment or two recently -- or you worry you might have to miss an upcoming one -- you're not alone. Due to the coronavirus recession and record levels of unemployment, over 7% of all car loans in the US are currently in some sort of deferment program, according to recent data released by credit reporting agency TransUnion.

Typically, missing a car payment can damage your credit score or even lead to the bank repossessing your vehicle. However, in the wake of the recent economic turmoil brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, most lenders have streamlined their financial hardship programs and are willing to be a bit forgiving if you just ask for help.

But just like the help available with rent payments and unemployment benefits, you do have to ask. The worst thing you can do is ignore the problem and assume it'll work itself out on its own. (Scroll to the end for what else you should absolutely not do.)

Here's a look at the most current information and resources we could locate to help you deal with your car payment. We'll continue to update this story as new details emerge.

First, see what assistance your lender has to offer

You'll want to know what kinds of programs your bank, credit union or other auto loan provider may have available to you. Also, if there are any state laws that might offer some protections against repossession, you'll want to find out about those, too.

Here are the most comprehensive resources we've been able to turn up to help with both. (If you don't see your lender on any of those lists, try contacting the company directly through its website or app.)

As businesses like this soda and candy shop in Asheville, North Carolina, start to reopen, you can bet repossession companies will be back to work, too.

Most repos occur after two or three months of no payments

If you've fallen behind (or you think you're going to fall behind) on your car payment for 90 days or longer, you may very well be at risk of having your car repossessed. Your lender may be more lenient if you've never missed a payment before, but the more often you've been late in the past, the sooner they might attempt repossession.

One way around this, however, is a deferment or forbearance program.

What are auto loan deferment programs and how do they work?

Under normal circumstances, most lenders will report a late payment to the credit bureaus once it's at least 30 days overdue, and they'll typically come to take your vehicle away after you've missed three or more payments in a row.

A deferment or forbearance allows you to skip between one and three payments with no late fees or penalties. After the deferment period ends, either your monthly payment will either go up slightly or your loan will be extended by about the same amount of time as the deferment.

On the downside, interest will continue to accrue during the months you skip your payment, so you'll end up paying more for your vehicle in the long run. But on the plus side, your missed payments will not show up as negative marks on your credit report, so your credit score shouldn't take a hit.

How to talk to your bank about your options

Most lenders' programs have been streamlined to be pretty simple to apply for. Fill out a form, possibly attach some documentation (termination letter, layoff notice, etc.), send it off to your lender and wait for an approval confirmation. If your bank doesn't have it set up that easy and you have no idea where to begin, the legal services website DoNotPay has a chatbot that can help you draft a letter to your lender.

That said, you can probably handle this on your own. Just be honest and forthcoming about your situation and realistic about how much time you'll need to get back on your feet. Generally speaking, banks would rather work with you and retain you as a customer than leave you stranded without a vehicle.

Ford is currently offering to pay six months' worth of new vehicle payments when you purchase a new car from the company.

Wayne Cunningham/CNET

What normally happens when you miss a car payment?

In most states, a lender, like your bank, can start the repossession process the day after you miss even just one payment, but most companies give their customers a grace period. Often the lender won't even charge a late fee until the payment is at least 10 days late, and most won't report it to the three major credit bureaus until it's over 30 days late.

If you go past 30 days delinquent -- and especially if you miss the next two payments in your loan cycle as well -- that's where you start treading into repossession, or repo, territory.

How repossession works

In most cases, your lender will contract with a third-party agency that specializes in repossessions. That company will use whatever information it can get -- your home and work addresses, for example -- to track down the vehicle and tow it to a secured, usually gated lot. It does not need your car keys to take your car.

The repo company will then charge your bank for towing the vehicle, as well as a daily storage fee, usually around $25 to $75 per day. Unless you happened to have left your keys in the car, the repo company will also contract a locksmith to make a new set of keys -- then charge your bank for that service, too. When all is said and done, you'll owe anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars in charges, which you'll still be liable for whether you get your car out of repo or not.

road-trip-nissan-leaf-electric-car-17.jpg

If you quit paying your car payment, eventually a vehicle recovery service will come tow your car.

Andrew Hoyle/CNET

Are car repossession companies even open right now?

The auto repossession industry never quite figured out whether repo companies, many of which laid off dozens of employees early on in the pandemic, were even allowed to operate in areas under strict shelter-in-place orders. The Association of Credit and Collection Professionals, a lobbying group for debt collectors, has argued that debt collection is an essential service, but lawmakers have yet to chime in.

However, as most US cities are far along in the process of reopening and orders shuttering nonessential businesses have mostly been lifted, you can probably bet that repo companies will be up and running as soon as they can be.

Your rights vs. the bank's rights

In pretty much every instance your bank does not need a court order to attempt to repossess your car. You can view a list of every state's specific automobile repossession laws here, but generally speaking, your lending institution (or a company it hires) has the right to come onto your property and take the car so long as no one commits a "breach of the peace."

That means its representatives can't break into a locked garage, through a locked gate or otherwise use physical force against you or your property to take possession of your vehicle. They can, however, follow you to work, for example, or the grocery store, and wait until you leave your car unattended.

How to get your car out of repo -- and what happens if you don't

What if it's too late and your car has already been repoed? Many states have laws on the books about how long and under what conditions lenders must allow you the opportunity to get your vehicle back, but the terms aren't exactly favorable, especially if you're in the kind of financial situation that led to repo in the first place.

Generally, the law only compels lenders to release your car if you pay off the loan plus any towing and storage charges that have accrued. In practice, however, most lenders are willing to give your car back if you can at least catch up with your late payments (and, of course, even up with the repo company as well).

cash funds running out of money change dollars wallet empty

One option if you're struggling to pay your car payment is to try and sell your car for cash to pay off the loan, but that won't work if you owe more than the car is worth.

Sarah Tew/CNET

If you leave your vehicle in repo, either because you can't afford to get it out or you just decide it's not worth it, you're still not completely off the hook. The bank will likely auction off your car to the highest bidder, then apply the revenue from that sale to your remaining balance, including repossession charges. If that doesn't cover your entire debt, the bank can come after you for the remainder, including handing your account over to a collection agency and reporting the delinquency to the credit bureaus.

You have a few wild-card options as well

If you're at risk of having your car or truck repossessed, there are other options available besides deferment, but none quite as simple or easy. You could do what's called a "voluntary repossession," where you contact your lender and indicate your desire to turn your vehicle over to it. Your credit will take a hit and you'll be liable for any outstanding debt the bank fails to recoup at auction, but the overall impact to both your credit score and pocketbook will be less than if you wait for the bank to forcibly repo your car.

You can refinance your car for a lengthier loan term with a lower monthly payment, but that will only work if you've already paid off a substantial amount of the principal. If you've only had your car loan for a year or two, you might actually still owe more than it's worth. Also, your credit has to be good enough for a bank to underwrite a new loan for you, which may or may not be the case anymore.

You could also try to sell your car on the open market, or trade it in for something less expensive, but again, with the economy now in a full-blown recession, neither of these options seems very compelling.

What you absolutely should not do

Whatever you do, don't try to hide your car from your bank or the repo company. For one, you're probably not going to beat them at their own game, and the longer it takes to find it (and the more difficult you make it), the more they're going to charge you for their services in the end.

iowa-stop-sign

Stop! Don't just sit back and wait until the bank repos your car. Be proactive and ask and your lender may be able to help.

Shara Tibken/CNET

And don't just stop paying your loan and hope for the best. Whether or not lawmakers decide the repo industry performs an "essential" function, or if the repo man has to wait for a treatment or vaccine like the rest of us before getting back to work, eventually your delinquency will catch up with you. With banks demonstrating some compassion right now for those who've suffered financial hardship, you might as well take advantage of one of their relief programs while you can.

Chances are if you're worried about making your car payment, you have other bills keeping you up at night, too. Here's what you need to know about rent relief during the pandemic, as well as what assistance is available if you have a mortgage. For taxes, credit cards and everything else, here's what other financial help is available.

Overview Of The Prevalence Of Mesothelioma Cases

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. The prevalence of mesothelioma cases has increased in recent years, as individuals who were exposed to asbestos 20-50 years ago are now presenting with symptoms of the disease.

This makes mesothelioma a significant public health concern, and there is a growing need for increased awareness of the disease and its risk factors. While mesothelioma is still relatively uncommon, it is important for individuals who have been exposed to asbestos to be aware of the symptoms and seek medical attention if they develop any respiratory or chest-related symptoms, such as coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain, or wheezing.

Additionally, it is important for healthcare professionals to be aware of the risk factors for mesothelioma and to provide appropriate care and support to patients who are diagnosed with the disease.

Introduction Of The Topic Of Mesothelioma Cancer Lawsuits

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that affects the lining of certain organs, notably the lungs and abdomen. The disease is caused by exposure to asbestos, a naturally occurring mineral that was widely used in building materials throughout the 20th century.

Despite being banned in many countries, asbestos exposure still occurs today, often due to improper handling or removal of asbestos-containing materials. Mesothelioma cancer lawsuits have become increasingly common in recent years, as individuals seek compensation from companies that knowingly exposed them to asbestos without providing adequate safety measures or warnings.

These lawsuits can be complicated and require the expertise of experienced mesothelioma attorneys. In this article, we will explore the topic of mesothelioma cancer lawsuits, including the causes of the disease, the legal options available to those who have been affected, and the current state of mesothelioma litigation.

Asbestos And Mesothelioma

Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous mineral that has been widely used in the construction industry due to its insulating and fire-resistant properties. Unfortunately, prolonged exposure to asbestos fibers can lead to serious health issues, such as mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, chest, and abdomen.

Mesothelioma has a long latency period, meaning symptoms may not appear until decades after exposure to asbestos. Despite the known health risks, asbestos is still present in many older buildings and poses a danger to those who come into contact with it.

It is important to take appropriate safety measures when working with or around asbestos-containing materials to prevent exposure and reduce the risk of developing mesothelioma or other asbestos-related illnesses.

Overview Of Asbestos And How It Causes Mesothelioma

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that has been widely used in the construction industry due to its insulating and fire-resistant properties. However, exposure to asbestos has been linked to a number of serious health conditions, including mesothelioma, a type of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, heart, and abdomen.

When asbestos fibers are inhaled or ingested, they can become lodged in the body's tissues, causing inflammation and scarring. Over time, this can lead to mesothelioma, as well as other diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and pleural disease.

Mesothelioma can take many years to develop and is often diagnosed at an advanced stage when treatment options are limited. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the risks associated with asbestos exposure and to take appropriate precautions when working with or around materials that contain asbestos.

Explanation Of The Dangers Of Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos is a fibrous material that was once widely used in the construction industry due to its durability, heat resistance, and insulation properties. However, prolonged exposure to asbestos fibers can have serious health consequences.

Inhalation of asbestos fibers can lead to lung diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma, which can take years or even decades to develop after exposure. Workers in industries such as construction, shipbuilding, and manufacturing are at a higher risk of exposure to asbestos fibers.

Therefore, it is important for employers to take the necessary steps to protect workers from asbestos exposure by conducting regular inspections, providing protective equipment, and implementing safe work practices.

Additionally, individuals who believe they may have been exposed to asbestos should consult with their doctor and undergo regular health screenings to monitor for any potential health effects. By being aware of the dangers of asbestos exposure and taking proactive steps to prevent it, we can help ensure the safety and health of workers and individuals at risk.

Discussion Of The Link Between Asbestos And Mesothelioma

Asbestos is a mineral that has been widely used in construction and manufacturing due to its heat-resistant properties. However, it has since been found to be a potent carcinogen and is linked to several diseases, including mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, heart, or abdomen. It is caused by inhaling asbestos fibers, which become lodged in the body and cause inflammation and scarring.

This scarring can eventually lead to the development of cancer. The link between asbestos and mesothelioma has been well-established, with numerous studies showing a clear association between exposure to asbestos and the development of this deadly disease.

Despite this, many people continue to be exposed to asbestos in their workplaces, homes, and communities. It is important for individuals to be aware of the risks associated with asbestos exposure and to take steps to minimize their exposure to this hazardous substance.

The Impact Of Mesothelioma On Health

Mesothelioma is a rare but deadly type of cancer that primarily affects the lining of the lungs, heart, or abdomen. It is caused by exposure to asbestos, a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in construction and manufacturing in the mid-20th century.

While significant efforts have been made to limit exposure to asbestos, many people are still at risk of developing mesothelioma due to the long latency period of the disease. The impact of mesothelioma on health can be devastating, as it often leads to chronic pain, breathing difficulties, and other serious complications.

Additionally, the emotional toll of a mesothelioma diagnosis can be significant, both for the individual affected and their loved ones. Despite these challenges, there are treatments available to manage the symptoms and slow the progression of the disease.

Ongoing research into new treatment options and prevention strategies offers hope for those affected by this devastating disease.

Overview Of Mesothelioma Symptoms And Diagnosis

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the mesothelium, a thin layer of tissue that lines the internal organs of the body. One of the challenges of diagnosing mesothelioma is that its symptoms are often vague and may not appear until the cancer has reached an advanced stage.

Common symptoms of mesothelioma include chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, coughing, and weight loss. These symptoms can be brought on by a variety of other conditions, which can make diagnosis difficult.

Doctors typically use a variety of tests to diagnose mesothelioma, such as imaging tests like X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, and biopsies, in which a sample of tissue is taken from the affected area and examined under a microscope.

These tests can help doctors determine the extent of the cancer and the best treatment options. It is important to note that mesothelioma is often detected at a later stage, which makes treatment more difficult.

Therefore, it is essential to be aware of the symptoms and seek medical attention immediately if any of them are present, especially if you have a history of exposure to asbestos.

Explanation Of Mesothelioma Treatment Options

Mesothelioma is a cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, heart, and abdomen. It is caused by exposure to asbestos, a mineral that was commonly used in construction materials until the 1970s. There is currently no cure for mesothelioma, but there are several treatment options available.

One common treatment option is surgery. The goal of surgery is to remove as much of the cancerous tissue as possible. Depending on the location of the cancer, the surgeon may remove part of the lung, the lining of the heart, or the lining of the abdomen.

Surgery may be followed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy to kill any remaining cancer cells.Another treatment option is chemotherapy, which involves using drugs to kill cancer cells. Chemotherapy can be given orally or intravenously, and may be used in combination with surgery or radiation therapy.

Radiation therapy involves using high-energy rays to kill cancer cells. This treatment can be given externally or internally. External radiation therapy involves directing a beam of radiation at the cancer from outside the body, while internal radiation therapy involves placing a radioactive source inside the body to kill cancer cells.

Immunotherapy is a newer treatment option that involves using drugs to boost the patient's immune system to fight the cancer. This treatment is still being studied, but has shown promise in some patients.

In conclusion, mesothelioma treatment options vary depending on the location, stage, and other factors. It is important for patients to discuss all of their options with their doctor to determine the best course of treatment for their specific situation.

Discussion Of The Impact Of Mesothelioma On Individuals And Their Families

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. It is a very aggressive cancer that can have a significant impact on individuals and their families. Mesothelioma is a difficult disease to treat, and the prognosis for those diagnosed with it is often poor.

The treatments that are available can be very expensive and can cause significant side effects, which can make it difficult for individuals to work or even carry out day-to-day activities. The impact of mesothelioma is not limited to the physical effects of the disease.

The psychological impact of a mesothelioma diagnosis can be significant, as individuals and their families may experience feelings of fear, anxiety, and depression. Mesothelioma can also have a significant impact on the financial well-being of individuals and their families, as the cost of medical treatment and other associated expenses can be very high.

In addition, mesothelioma can create significant emotional strain for families, as they try to come to terms with the diagnosis and manage the care of their loved one.In conclusion, mesothelioma is a devastating disease that can have a profound impact on individuals and their families.

The physical, emotional, and financial effects of mesothelioma can be difficult to manage, and those affected by the disease require support from healthcare providers, family members, and other caregivers to help them cope with the challenges they face.

Mesothelioma Lawsuits

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. Many individuals who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma have filed lawsuits to seek compensation for their medical expenses and other damages.

Mesothelioma lawsuits can be complex and often require the assistance of a skilled attorney who has experience in handling these types of cases. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it is important to explore your legal options and seek compensation for your injuries.

A mesothelioma cancer lawsuit can help you gather the evidence and support that you need to receive the compensation that you are entitled to.

Overview Of Mesothelioma Lawsuits

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, a toxic mineral that was widely used in construction and manufacturing until the late 1970s. As such, many individuals who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma have taken legal action to seek compensation for their illness.

Mesothelioma lawsuits may be filed against asbestos manufacturers, suppliers, and employers who failed to protect workers from exposure to the carcinogen. These lawsuits often result in significant financial settlements or jury verdicts that can help cover the high costs of medical treatment and other related expenses.

Overall, mesothelioma lawsuits play an important role in holding companies accountable for the harm they have caused and providing justice for those impacted by this devastating disease.

Explanation Of The Legal Process Involved In A Mesothelioma Lawsuit

A mesothelioma lawsuit is a legal process initiated by someone who has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, a type of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. The purpose of a mesothelioma lawsuit is to seek compensation from companies that negligently exposed the individual to asbestos.

The legal process of a mesothelioma lawsuit typically involves several stages. First, the individual or their family must hire an experienced mesothelioma attorney to represent them in court. The attorney will then investigate the case and gather evidence to support the claim.

Next, the attorney will file a complaint against the companies that are responsible for the individual's asbestos exposure. This complaint will outline the specific allegations against each defendant and the amount of compensation that the individual is seeking.

After the complaint is filed, the defendants will have the opportunity to respond and defend themselves against the claim. This may involve pretrial motions, such as a motion to dismiss, in which the defendants attempt to have the case dismissed before it goes to trial.

If the case is not dismissed, it will proceed to trial. During the trial, the attorneys for both sides will present evidence and arguments to convince the jury to rule in their favor. If the jury finds the defendants liable, they will be ordered to pay compensation to the individual.

Overall, a mesothelioma lawsuit can be a complex and lengthy legal process. However, with the help of an experienced attorney, individuals and their families can seek justice and compensation for the harm caused by reckless and negligent exposure to asbestos.

Discussion Of The Types Of Compensation That Can Be Awarded In Mesothelioma Lawsuits

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer that is often caused by exposure to asbestos. It has a long latency period, which means that symptoms may not appear until decades after exposure. As a result, many people who develop mesothelioma have a history of working in industries such as mining, construction, or manufacturing, where asbestos was commonly used.

In mesothelioma lawsuits, compensation can be awarded to the victims and their families for the damages and losses caused by the disease. The types of compensation that can be awarded in these lawsuits vary depending on the circumstances of each case.

The most common type of compensation awarded in mesothelioma lawsuits is damages for medical expenses, which can include past and future costs related to treatment, medication, and care. Compensation can also be awarded for lost wages and reduced earning capacity, as mesothelioma often prevents victims from working or earning their full wage.

Pain and suffering damages may also be awarded, which encompass the physical and emotional pain caused by the disease. In addition to compensatory damages, some mesothelioma lawsuits can result in punitive damages.

These are awarded as a way to punish the defendant for their wrongful conduct, such as failing to warn workers about the dangers of asbestos exposure.Overall, the types of compensation that can be awarded in mesothelioma lawsuits aim to provide financial support to victims and their families and to hold responsible parties accountable for the harm caused by asbestos exposure.

Controversies Surrounding

Mesothelioma is a rare and deadly form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos, a highly carcinogenic material that was widely used in construction and other industries throughout the 20th century.

Asbestos exposure can cause a range of respiratory diseases, including lung cancer and mesothelioma, both of which have been linked to prolonged exposure to the material. The controversies surrounding mesothelioma cancer lawsuits are many and varied, with some arguing that the legal system has been too quick to award large settlements to plaintiffs who claim to have developed the disease as a result of asbestos exposure.

Others accuse asbestos manufacturers of ignoring the risks associated with the material for decades, and of deliberately misleading workers and the public about its dangers.Despite the controversies, there is no denying the devastating impact that mesothelioma can have on victims and their families.

With no known cure and few effective treatments available, the disease can quickly lead to poor quality of life and, ultimately, death. As such, it is important to continue to raise awareness about the risks associated with asbestos exposure and to ensure that those who have been affected by the material are able to seek compensation and justice through the legal system.

Last Word

Mesothelioma cancer is a type of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, abdomen, or heart. It is primarily caused by exposure to asbestos fibers, which can be inhaled or ingested and can lead to the development of mesothelioma years, or even decades, after the initial exposure.

The symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until many years after exposure, and the cancer is often in advanced stages by the time it is diagnosed. This is why it is important to seek medical attention if you have been exposed to asbestos, especially if you are experiencing any symptoms such as shortness of breath or chest pain.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages. However, it is important to consult with an experienced mesothelioma attorney to discuss your legal options and determine the best course of action for your specific case.

See If You Qualify for a Piece of Noom's $56 Million Class Action Settlement

If you subscribed to the popular weight-management app Noom, you may be eligible for part of a $56 million class-action settlement regarding its automatic renewal and its cancellation policies.

Plaintiffs in the case accused Noom of violating consumer protection laws by getting customers to sign up for a free trial period without clearly disclosing its auto-renewal terms.

Founders Saeju Jeong and Artem Petakov did not acknowledge wrongdoing as part of the settlement, which they agreed to in February.

Noom did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but Petakov and Jeong said in a February blog post that settlement was "the best path forward as it allows us to focus our energy on delivering the best possible health outcomes for our Noomers."

Here's what you need to know about the Noom settlement, including how to find out if you're eligible, how you'll be paid and how much you can expect to receive.

What is Noom?

Noom is a subscription-based app to track food intake and exercise habits to encourage weight loss. The company emphasizes behavioral changes and users' emotions related to food instead of calorie counting or other techniques. It incorporates support groups and personal coaches.

Noom

A class-action suit claims Noom lured users in with a free trial but made it difficult to cancel when the trial was over.

Noom

What is Noom accused of doing?

A 2020 lawsuit claimed the weight-loss app, which was valued at about $3.7 billion in May 2021, misled customers with a "risk-free" trial without providing a straightforward way to cancel after the trial period ended.

Subscribers were instead sucked into automatic renewals, plaintiffs in Nichols v. Noom alleged, which charged them for up to eight months of nonrefundable payments totaling as much as $199, according to Reuters.

What was the settlement Noom agreed to?

Noom has agreed to pay out a total of $56 million to subscribers and provide an additional $6 million in subscription credits.

Who is eligible to receive a payment?

Anyone who subscribed to the Noom Healthy Weight program online or via the company's app between May 12, 2016, and Oct. 6, 2020, and did not receive a full refund or chargeback is eligible to receive a portion of the settlement.

No proof of purchase is necessary. But if you purchased a Noom subscription through iTunes or Google Play, you are not considered an eligible recipient, or "class member."

Class members may have been notified about the settlement via email or social media. If you think you qualify but didn't receive a notice, visit the Noom Class Action Settlement site or call 844-999-2466.

How much will class members receive?

A court must still sign off on the deal, but the settlement groups have been broken into two categories: Subclass A and B.

Subclass A members can expect an approximate payment of $167. They include:

  • Individuals who never completed their Noom enrollment but were charged anyway.
  • People who enrolled but can prove they never used Noom after the trial period.
  • Those who used Noom two times or fewer after the trial period.
  • People who stopped using Noom after day 58 of the subscription.
  • Customers who received a partial refund for a Healthy Weight Subscription.
  • Individuals who were California residents when they signed up for the Healthy Weight Subscription.

Class members who don't fit any of those definitions are considered part of Subclass B and will receive approximately $30.

In addition, the first 100,000 Subclass B Members who file a valid claim form can also receive a free month's subscription to Noom's Healthy Weight program, independent of any cash reward.

When is the deadline to file a claim?

Class members must file their claims by June 24, 2022. That is also the deadline to exclude yourself from the settlement and retain your right to sue Noom regarding the issues in the case.

If you do that, you can request to speak at the final approval hearing on July 11, but your notice of intent to appear must be postmarked no later than July 5, 2022.

If you don't file a claim or indicate your desire to exclude yourself from the settlement by June 24, you waive any right to payment or to sue Noom.

Has Noom changed any policies since the suit was filed?

As part of the settlement, Noom agreed to alter certain practices. In the February blog post, Petakov and Jeong said they have added a self-service cancellation option on both the Noom app and website.

In addition, they indicated Noom has increased support staff, added more phone and online chat options, simplified pricing and made subscription details "even clearer and more readily available for Noomers to refer back to."

Mesothelioma And Law

Mesothelioma is a rare and deadly form of cancer that develops in the lining of the lungs, abdomen, or heart. It is caused by exposure to asbestos, a fibrous mineral that was widely used in construction and other industries until the 1970s. Many people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases have legal rights and may be eligible for compensation. There are various laws and regulations in place to protect workers and individuals from asbestos exposure, and to hold companies accountable for the harm caused by their products or practices.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it is important to seek legal advice and explore your options for seeking justice and compensation under the law.

Overview Of Mesothelioma Cases In Legal History

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is often caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos was widely used in construction and manufacturing for much of the 20th century, and many people who were exposed to it later developed mesothelioma. As a result, there have been many mesothelioma cases throughout legal history. In many of these cases, individuals or their families have pursued legal action against the companies that exposed them to asbestos. These cases have resulted in large settlements or verdicts in favor of the plaintiffs, and have raised awareness about the dangers of asbestos.

Despite regulations and restrictions on the use of asbestos, mesothelioma cases continue to be diagnosed, highlighting the ongoing need for vigilance in protecting workers and the general public from this hazardous substance.

Explanation Of Why Mesothelioma Cases Are Unique

Mesothelioma cases are unique in several ways. First and foremost, mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that is primarily caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos fibers can become embedded in the lining of the lungs, abdomen, or heart, leading to the formation of tumors. In addition, mesothelioma symptoms may not appear until decades after the initial exposure to asbestos, which can make diagnosis and treatment more challenging. Mesothelioma is also difficult to detect in its early stages and is often misdiagnosed as other more common conditions, leading to delays in treatment and a worse prognosis for patients.

Furthermore, mesothelioma cases often involve complex legal issues, as many individuals who were exposed to asbestos were not adequately warned about the dangers of the material. As a result, mesothelioma patients and their families may seek compensation through lawsuits against the companies that exposed them to asbestos.Overall, mesothelioma cases are unique due to the rarity of the disease, the long latency period between exposure and symptoms, the difficulty in detecting and treating the disease, and the complex legal issues that they often involve.

Long Latency Period

The term "long latency period" refers to the delay between exposure to a particular substance or agent and the onset of a related disease or condition. This time period can range anywhere from several years to several decades, depending on the specific substance or agent involved. For example, in the case of asbestos exposure, the latency period for mesothelioma can be 20-50 years or longer. Understanding the concept of a long latency period is important in the study of epidemiology, as it can help researchers better identify and track potential health risks over time.

Despite the challenges presented by long latency periods, continued research and monitoring can provide valuable insights into the prevention and treatment of related diseases and conditions.

Difficulty In Diagnosis

Difficulty in diagnosis can arise due to a variety of reasons. For example, some medical conditions have symptoms that are common to several different diseases, making it difficult to identify the specific condition causing the symptoms. Additionally, some conditions may have symptoms that are vague or non-specific, such as fatigue or headaches, which can make diagnosis more challenging.Another factor that can contribute to difficulty in diagnosis is the availability of diagnostic tools and technologies.

In some areas or for some specific conditions, diagnostic tests may not be readily available or may be too expensive for many people to afford. This can delay diagnosis and treatment, which can have serious consequences for the patient's health.Furthermore, cultural and linguistic barriers can also pose challenges to diagnosis, especially in multicultural societies. Patients may have trouble communicating their symptoms to healthcare providers who do not speak their language, which can lead to misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis.

Overall, the process of diagnosis can be complex and require a combination of medical expertise, advanced technologies, and effective communication between patients and healthcare providers.

High Cost Of Treatment

The high cost of treatment is a major concern for many individuals and families. With healthcare costs continuing to rise, accessing necessary medical care can be a financial burden. Even with insurance coverage, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses can add up quickly. This can lead to difficult choices between seeking treatment and paying for other essential needs such as housing, food, and transportation to work or school. For some, the high cost of treatment can also result in delayed or insufficient care, which can worsen their health conditions or even lead to serious complications.

As such, finding ways to make healthcare more affordable and accessible is a crucial challenge that needs to be addressed by both policymakers and healthcare providers.

Importance Of Legal Representation For Mesothelioma Patients

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that is commonly caused by exposure to asbestos. Unfortunately, many companies that used asbestos in their products knew about the dangers of the substance but failed to warn their employees or take precautions to protect them. For mesothelioma patients and their families, having legal representation can be crucial in obtaining justice and compensation for their suffering. An experienced mesothelioma attorney can provide valuable guidance and support throughout the legal process.

They can help mesothelioma patients and their families understand their legal rights and the options available to them, as well as work to hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions. Additionally, legal representation can help mesothelioma patients and their families secure financial compensation to cover the costs of medical treatment, lost wages, and other expenses associated with the disease. This can be especially important for those who are unable to work or face significant financial hardship as a result of their illness.

Overall, having legal representation can play a vital role in helping mesothelioma patients and their families navigate the legal system and obtain the compensation and justice they deserve. It is important for all mesothelioma patients and their families to seek out an experienced and reputable attorney to ensure they receive the support and advocacy they need.

Documentation Of Asbestos Exposure

Documentation of asbestos exposure is a critical component of ensuring occupational safety and health in industries where workers may come into contact with asbestos. Employers have a legal obligation to document instances of asbestos exposure and ensure that workers are protected from harmful levels of exposure. Such documentation may include records of worker training, results from air monitoring and testing, medical records, and other relevant documents. In addition to protecting workers, documentation of asbestos exposure can also help employers to identify potential hazards and take appropriate measures to mitigate risks in the workplace.

Overall, the systematic documentation of asbestos exposure is an important tool for promoting worker safety and reducing the incidence of asbestos-related diseases.
